The Gift

Posted on December 22, 2020

“God’s Christmas gift to you has three qualities that make it unique. First, it is the most expensive gift you’ll ever receive. It’s priceless. Jesus paid for it with his life. Second, it’s the only gift you’ll ever receive that will last forever. Finally, it is an extremely practical gift-one you’ll use every day for the rest of your life.” – Rick Warren, The Purpose of Christmas

“It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags!”… Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! “Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more!” ~Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Christmas does indeed mean a whole lot more.

It’s a celebration.

A time to make merry as we remember the birth of a King, and not just any king but ‘The King of Kings’.

“I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all people.”

Good news, not bad, repulsive, sad or incendiary, good news of ‘GREAT Joy’ for all people.

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Jesus, the God of all creation step down into human history, taking the form of a man to live amongst men.

This has and continues to be the most celebrated birth in all of human history.

“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

As we celebrate the Kings birth from more than 2000-years ago, remember this,

“This Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go.”

And when that day comes, as foretold by this very Kings own words, here is what is in store,

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.

He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning

Nor crying nor pain anymore…Behold, I am making all things new…I am the Alpha and the Omega,

The first and the last, the beginning and the end…Surely I am coming soon.”

“Amen – Come Lord Jesus.”

May you and yours have a most blessed Christmas as we celebrate the Kings birth – His gift to us.

And look forward with anticipation towards His future arrival.
